srschae,

You comments are insightful and balanced. I saw this quote that reminded me of your remarks:

"Paradoxically, while holy rebellion represents a real (and perceived) challenge to established forms of church, it is also the key to its renewal." (The Forgotten Ways - Alan Hirsch)

Hmm. Jesus established a kingdom, a body... but what we tend to experience in church today is often so "other" than what He established. I know there's a movement out there away from organized religion. And I know there's a kick-back movement in opposition to that move away. I think there's got to be a middle ground somewhere. God still uses church, the institution, in the lives of people. And yet, at the same time, there's often something so wrong with the way our modern day institution works. I'm not for scrapping the whole system, but I just think, hope rather, that there's room for reformation, change, something... because what's happening as a whole doesn't seem to be working. Something crucial is being lost in the shuffle.

Your quote included: "$2.2 billion would triple the current funding of Bible translation, printing, and distribution." I think this is where we should start. Getting the Bible in the hands of people who don't already have it in their language is not only spiritually transforming but socially transforming as well. There are 2200 languages representing 200 million people who don't have even one verse of the Bible. I would love your thoughts on my post about how to solve this problem here.

Here's another article from Books and Culture that really caught my attention (see esp. the 3rd paragraph). I think the same books might be discussed in this article as well.

How does it follow that feminism has caused women to be more unhappy? How can you compare polls from the 1960's to today? There are way way to many variables in play here to assume that feminism is the cause of the unhappiness of women.

Protestants and Evangelicals are backward and ignorant. They just keep repeating things over and over again even if they are not true. I think anybody involved in Protestantism needs to get out. They are in a dangerous cult where they are not allowed to think for themselves. If you do not believe me than watch how they do not allow this post to stay. Evangelicals are really cultists.

Mormons provide a community, a missionary force, and a welfare system. They also provide a type of dating service by offering single wards. Why can't other churches be more like Mormons? Mormons also provide foreign language training. Jehovah Witnesses appeal to people who want to be sheltered. It is kind of like joining an anonymous group. It helps you live a better life because you can not really associate much with worldly things or worldly people.
