Shouting to Jesus on American Idol

April 11, 2008 by Bryan J. Lair

First I was surprised that American Idol would sing “Shout to the Lord” at all (see post Shout the the Lord [not Jesus] on American Idol).  Some people were freaking out that “Jesus” was replaced by “Shepherd,” but I didn’t really care.  American Idol is not a church service.

However, American Idol performed the song again on April 10 and this time Jesus was not replaced with “Shepherd.”  Now I’m freaking out.  Feel free to do the same.

I’m so glad they sang it right on Thursday night. The name of Jesus should never be replaced. I noticed that only David, Brooke and Kristy sang the beginning of the song so I’m wondering if they were given a choice to sing about Jesus. I can’t remember if they all sang it on Wednesday night. I’m thinking that David, Brooke and Kristy are believers maybe. Hope so!

God’s spirit is moving and it’s exciting to see. I pray not only that the contestants were touched by that song, but everyone who heard it. Praise God!!!

Wow! I missed it last night, but saw it the first night. Either way it was powerful and God is up to something big!

PRAISE THE LORD!!! i was jaw-dropped to hear this last night on American Idol!!! What a wonderful and refreshing thing to see on television, especially in the wake of what is going on with Oprah. Its good to see & hear that the truth is reaching millions of people via mainstream television.

Actually, the name of Jesus has been sung SEVERAL times on American Idol over the past couple of weeks. Check out this blog post to see what I’m talking about.

I was just channel surfing when I came across American Idol and thought i’d stop to see who is singing and when I heard all the contestants starting to sing this song I sooo excited. It’s not every night you tune in to the secular music station and hear an awe inspiring christian song.

    God Bless all of them!!

Would they change the lyrics to any other song or sing it with the original lyrics?
